Bristol experimental band Scaler announce new EP, Reflex
Scaler have revealed plans for their upcoming EP, Reflex, and shared new single, "Spiral".
Reflex is Scaler's first new music from the group since their second album Endlessly, is described as a reaction to the long and dense creative process of making that collection of songs.
New single "Spiral" is said to see Scaler at their heaviest, pushing the physical force of their live sound further. "Our first time straying from 4/4," the band say. "'Spiral' began life as a hypnotic, sludgy beat, evolving into a spidery, chugging metal throb, the sound of a thought looping back on itself, picking up speed each time round."
"With each release we try to respond to the version of the band that made the last one," Scaler explain. "After the long journey up the mountain of our second full length Endlessly, we wanted to make something more immediate, something more live, raw and direct. These songs were made with the four of us in the room together with our machines, reacting to what the others were doing. Trying to capture the feeling of when your body outruns your head, no second guessing or holding back. Together they work as both fight and flight. A chase and a reaction. Instinct not thought. A reflex."
Working alongside visual artist Jason Baker, the band have developed a live show where sound, light and visuals work together as one experience. It has taken them to an ArcTanGent headline, a Shangri La shutdown at Glastonbury and performances at Boomtown, Green Man, End Of The Road, ADE and Nuits Sonores. They are currently looking ahead at a run of UK live dates, including an appearances at Brighton's Mutations Festival and Jarred Up in Sheffield, as well as shows in London, Liverpool, Manchester and Bristol.
