Biopic on Sinéad O’Connor’s early life and rise to fame in development
A new movie exploring the life late Irish singer, Sinéad O'Connor is currently in development.
The film will be produced by IE:Entertainment, the company behind Nothing Compares, in collaboration with Nine Daughters and See-Saw Films. Josephine Decker, known for directing the 2020 biopic Shirley, will helm the film, with a screenplay by Irish writer Stacey Gregg (Mary and George, Little Birds, The Letter for the King).
As reported by Variety, the narrative will primarily focus on O'Connor's formative years in Dublin, her rise in the music industry, and how her fame became intertwined with her activism, including protests against the Catholic Church and the Irish state. The Independent reports that the film will also examine how her public persona and artistry shaped her legacy.
The biopic has reportedly been in development since 2022, and is backed by BBC Films. Further details, including the casting, title, and release date, have yet to be announced.
