Billboard Style sign to Good English Records and detail debut album, Pull of the Moon
Formed by Forth Wanderers guitarist Ben Guterl and Victoryland co-founder Dan Howard, Billboard Style have announced their signing to Good English Records, their first album Pull of the Moon, and released the title track.
Guterl and Howard met for the first time at a Maryland house show over a decade ago, and spent years making bedroom pop albums under the name Ben Special, with Guterl writing, singing and playing guitar, while Howard drummed, produced and mixed. The pair's first album as Billboard Style is described as more "off the wall" pop, with "Pull of the Moon" arriving as the first taster.
“This song is about desire and wanting someone so bad it’s like a little parasite that nestles in your brain and rewires your thoughts,” Guterl explains. “It’s about how you always lose a part of yourself in pursuit of someone else and how you might not care because love is intoxicating and maybe that’s the shit life is all about."
The songs on Pull of the Moon were written and produced over several years, and eventually recorded at Chateau Grand Studios in Brooklyn, with Guterl and Howard developing greater confidence in their creative partnership and sharing in songwriting durities.
“This album was made over so many different instances and times in our life," Howard says. "t’s an imprint of all the time that we have in our days, and how we structure them and make sense of them, and make meaning out of them. That’s something that we will continue to do forever.”
Guterl adds: “I feel like you can hear our growth together as friends and as artistic collaborators. And it’s nice to have a stamp of that. You grow with your friends over time, relationships evolve, and there’s not really anything tangible to reflect it. That’s what’s so beautiful about making music, I think, it’s this emotional snapshot.”
