Big Thief debut triple album Horsepower live in Nashville

Big Thief have unveiled Horsepower, a 29-song triple album, with a full live performance at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium. The private show featured guests Lucinda Williams, Gillian Welch, and Iris DeMent.

Photo and video were banned at the private show, though a setlist from the evening has since circulated. Before they started playing, Adrianne Lenker addressed the crowd: “If you had some hopes of hearing some of the songs you might know, those can also be discarded.” The band didn’t play the album in sequence, but they did perform all 29 songs in full. They were joined by the wider group behind the record: Russ Pahl and Greg Leisz on pedal steel and guitar, plus fiddle players Hannah Read, Richard Bowden, and Zosha Warpeha.

The set pulled from material that has been in live rotation for a while. “Carry” and “Space and Time” were first aired back in May during a field session for Belgium’s Radio 1.

Big Thief released their most recent album, Double Infinity, in 2025, their first as a trio following the departure of bassist Max Oleartchik. Next month they’ll begin another North American run behind that record. No release date has been announced for Horsepower.
