Bess Atwell announces new album Cut A Figure inspired by spontaneous move to Canada

London indie-folk artist Bess Atwell has announced her fourth album, Cut A Figure, out 5 February 2027 via Nettwerk, and shared lead single “Glass” with a video. She has also confirmed 2027 world tour dates.

Atwell explained that the album title comes from a line in the lead single, "Glass": "I knew I wanted to name the album after a line in this song as it feels like the heart of the record. Sometimes, an eagerness to be seen and understood can have the opposite effect – you can be so transparent that you end up invisible.” She added that as a teenager she took a personality test in which participants imagine a cube: “All my friends and family pictured various different sizes and colours, while I saw a transparent glass box floating in space.”

The new record follows 2024’s Light Sleeper and was shaped by a spontaneous move to Canada, where Atwell lived for nine months in Quebec. It is her first for the Vancouver label Nettwerk, home to Alice Phoebe Lou, Night Tapes, and Ladytron.

Cut A Figure was produced by Chris Coady at his Glendale, California studio. Coady has worked with numerous artists, including Beach House, Yuck, Future Islands, Show Me the Body, IAN SWEET, and DIIV.

The 2027 tour includes UK dates in Glasgow, Birmingham, and London, where an album launch show takes place at the Barbican on 6 February. North American dates run through March, followed by Australia, further UK and Ireland shows in April, and European dates in May.
