"Rust" follows on from previous singles, “Best Life,” featuring JONAH, and "Hiding" featuring Lykke Li.

While the previous singles serve as a quite stark departure from Ben’s signature sound—he’s determined to break out of the pre-fabricated boxes he’s been put in. ”Rust” is a callback for his fans who adore the sound of his previous projects, Begin Again (2021) and Breathing.
