Bella Union shares posthumous Nell Smith single, "Daisy Fields"
Bella Union have shared "Daisy Fields" as the latest preview of Anxious – the forthcoming posthumous debut album of Nell Smith.
The song was written directly under the eyes of a film crew that was shooting a documentary about Nell's story with The Flaming Lips in the Spring of 2022 at a writing session with Shred Kelly in Fernie, British Columbia. The unorthodox setting made for a surprisingly organic writing process that developed quickly from a few chords and a glance at a photograph of a Daisy Field on the wall.
Nell Smith’s family have announced news of a special one-off live event at Brudenell Social Club in Leeds on 16 June to celebrate her life and work. She was born and raised in Leeds before her family relocated to Canada. The night will feature a documentary screening along with live renditions of Nell’s songs by Penelope Isles and friends.
The Nell Smith Memorial Fund set up by Nell’s family to honour her legacy and support emerging musicians has now reached $50,000. The fund aims to raise $100,000 and award $10,000 every year for ten years with profits from the release going directly into the fund’s corpus.
Anxious will be released on 11 April via Bella Union and is available to pre-order here.
