Bambie Thug will represent Ireland at The Eurovision Song Contest 2024
Having emerged victorious on The Late Late Show Eurovision Special on RTÉ One on Friday evening, Bambie Thug will be representing Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024.
Bambie Thug, from Macroom in Co. Cork, will now travel to Malmö, Sweden in May, where Ireland will compete in the 68th Eurovision Song Contest, bidding to qualify for the grand final on Saturday 11 May. The competition will be held in Malmö Arena after Loreen scooped the coveted title for a second time with her entry "Tattoo" for Sweden in 2023. Two semi-finals will take place on Tuesday 7 May and Thursday 9 May, followed by the final.
Speaking just after the show, Bambie Thug said: "I don’t know how I feel – I feel incredible! My words are gone… as a lyricist you’d think I’d have more to say but I’m speechless – I’m so excited and I promise I’m going to do you so proud."
Last year, it was revealed that Olly Alexander of Years & Years, will be representing the UK at the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest.
“I’ve loved watching Eurovision ever since I was a little kid and I’m beyond excited to be taking part next year. As a young boy I always looked forward to this incredible event of unbridled joy, the wonderfully chaotic mix of musical styles, theatrical performances, heartfelt emotion and humour," he said.
All three live Eurovision 2024 programmes will be broadcast on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on 7, 9 and 11 May 2024.
