Aziya announces her new mixtape, BAMBI
Aziya has released the new song "bbydoll" to accompany the announcement of her forthcoming mixtape, BAMBI.
The new BAMBI era began with “party’s over” and “crush (tom verlaine)”, each telling a story of the possible beginning of a romantic connection. “call my name (lux lisbon)” then tells a darker tale inspired by Sofia Coppolla’s Virgin Suicides. On “bbydoll”, Aziya enters into a place of defiance and fortitude.
“I don't wanna be someone's plaything - I felt like that once, with someone I was with. There was one day I vividly remember asking myself why I was with a person like this in the first place, who was doing everything they could to make me feel inferior, how did I end up here?", Aziya says. "I ended up producing a song that felt like I was reclaiming the word “babydoll”. This is my bad b*tch anthem - it’s my 'what would Chloe Sevigny, Bjork or Santigold do if they were treated badly by someone who didn’t see their worth? LEAVE’ soundtrack.”
BAMBI comes after Aziya’s second EP, LONELY CASTLES. The four track project which included singles "atomic", "chain", and the self-produced "wundagirl".
“I found that last year was a lot of firsts for me. I think I was learning to be comfortable - not just in the industry but in relationships too. I learnt a lot about myself and my boundaries last year," Aziya explains. "‘BAMBI’ is the representation of how sometimes your niceness can be taken for granted, and that you need to overcome it and become a stronger version of that person.”
