Aruba Red turns trauma into healing on new album Latent Echo

The record, which arrives physically on 30 October and digitally on 24 December, is preceded by new single "Kalliope", with further tracks will follow on each full moon for the remainder of the years.

Red, who has previously collaborated with Nitin Sawhney, Plan B, Riz Ahmed and Roxy Music's Phil Manzanera, wrote and produced the album alongside Ivor Novello winner Renell Shaw and Camilo Tirado. The result sweeps between leftfield pop, pastoral folk and jazz-tinged arrangements, held together by her fragile, spiritual vocal delivery.

The album's themes reflect intense personal periods for the artist, including the aftermath of a decade-long coercively controlling relationship, alongside struggles with endometriosis, POTS and chronic pain. "After being unwell for so long I'm really thankful to be able to return to making and sharing my music again," Red says. "Creating Latent Echo, eight songs in eight days, was such a healing and hopeful experience. Releasing a new song on each full moon feels so grounding and I'm really excited to share this new music with the world."

New single "Kalliope" follows previously unveiled album cut "Lilac Glycerine" and takes its name from the Greek muse of poetry and eloquence, recognised as the eldest and wisest of the nine muses. "This song is a tribute and a prayer to Kalliope, asking her to bless our creative process and this body of work," Red explains. "Renell wanted to write a song for the album in 7/8 with a smooth, relaxed topline to push ourselves creatively."

Latent Echo will launch with a full play for the first time at London's World Heart Beat Embassy Gardens on 14 October, joined by Shaw and Tirado. An accompanying feature-length documentary film is currently in production, charting the story behind the album as an exploration of creativity within constraints.
