Árný Margrét pays tribute to Prins Pólo with cover of "Hakk og spaghettí"
Icelandic singer-songwriter Árný Margrét has released her own version of late Icelandic artist and musician Prins Póló’s 2010 song "Hakk og spaghettí".
Margret first performed the song at a memorial concert for Prins Póló — the project of Svavar Pétur Eysteinsson — who passed away from cancer one year prior. The title translates roughly to "spaghetti Bolognese", with the song following the story of a man who invites his girlfriend over for dinner, just to get sick. “I’d never really heard this song before, but I liked the name and the song really grew on me," Margret says. "It’s funny, it’s awkward, it’s heartfelt and honest.”
Speaking about how Prins Póló has inspired her, Margret adds: “He was an artist in so many different ways and never stopped creating. He helped create the cover of my first EP ‘intertwined’ and the layout of the vinyl. He also took the cover photo of ‘dinner alone’, and sometimes I would help with harmonies or anything that would come up in his project.”
