Another Country $$$$ reveal plans for new EP, IMAGE OF A FIRE

IMAGE OF A FIRE follows Another Country $$$$'s EP CURSED FRAME released back in January. The new collection of songs sees the band — formed by Sam Shorter and Oliver Knight — take a cinematic approach to dub, jungle, DnB, garage, noise and hyperpop, to explore themes of collapse and despair with "WANT" landing as the first preview.

The EP's title and concept arose when Shorter came across a website where people log disasters on Google Maps. "IMAGE OF A FIRE is about the idea of watching a disaster happen from a great distance," he says, "like you're viewing it on a computer screen or as an image on your phone."

"When I was a kid, I always had this tremendous fear of cataclysm or a great disaster," he continues. "I think these childhood fears always stay with you in one way or another and manifest as anxieties into adulthood. The record explores the idea of cataclysm and collapse in a personal way, through isolation, alienation, decay and loss."

Additionally, IMAGE OF A FIRE is also about reaching out to and holding onto connections, something that shaped how it was made. A group of friends and family spent two days in a studio on the North York Moors, building sculptures out of found objects while listening to the EP. "We wanted it to look like you've just stumbled on the sculptures in a remote location, taking inspiration from our love of found footage horror," says Knight.

"There is a narrative of disaster and rebuilding running through the EP," he adds. "From the music being about the feeling of witnessing a disaster from a distance, to the act of collaborating with friends and family to build something from the ground up."

Coinciding with the release, Another Country $$$$ are set to hit the road for a run of UK and European tour dates, beginning in Edinburgh on 30 January 2027. The duo will continue through London, Manchester, Birmingham, Brighton, Liverpool and more, concluding in Paris on 31 March 2027.
