AnkAnum to release remastered edition of his 1985 album, Song of the Motherland
Artist and poet AnkAnum – father of Shabaka Hutchings and formerly known as Anum Iyapo – has announced the release of a newly remastered edition of his 1985 album, Song of the Motherland.
The album is to be reissued digitally and on vinyl via his son Shabaka Hutchings’ label Native Rebel Recordings to coincide with Afrika Liberation Day. The tapes have been remastered by internationally renowned engineer Guy Davie at Electric Mastering and the release features new cover art designed by AnkAnum himself.
His book of poetry, Man of the Living, Woman of Life, was well received and convinced him to spread the message further by recording an album. As Panakanara Desmond J. Ehbedmelech wrote around the album's release in 1985, "It’s a kind of poetry that brought to the awareness of the world the struggles, aspirations and victories of all Afrikan peoples. His poetry uses a very vocal tone of structure and delivery and some of them must be read to be comprehended and enjoyed and others must be read aloud for total satisfaction."
Song of the Motherland will be reissued via Native Rebel Recordings on 25 May.
