Ane Brun shares new single "Two in This Story" about a friend who "turned out to be a fraud"

Scandinavian singer/songwriter Ane Brun will release her 11th studio album later this year, leading with a new sound that references the blue-eyed soul of Bryan Ferry.

"Two in This Story" is one of several tracks from the as-yet-untitled new album to reflect on a close friendship that turned out to be a pack of lies.

As she explains in an Instagram post, "I’ve always been the kind of friend growing up that was a bit naïve when it came to new people, I always think the best of people I meet, and I mostly believe what they tell me. This has led me to have a lot of really close friends. But in the last few years, I experienced a very overwhelming turn of events. A person close to me turned out to be a fraud. Years of friendship, stories, and a lot of drama, it all turned out to be lies. Despite everything that happened, I have decided to keep being 'optimistic' about people and stay open to new friendships. And of course, do what I do best as an artist – write songs about it!"

"Two in This Story" is Brun's first new solo track since 2023's "Hand in the Fire", and follows a collaboration with Norwegian dance artist Bendik HK released earlier this month.

"Always when I’m working on a new album, I’m trying to explore sound worlds that I haven’t touched on before,” she says of the track. “When I was working on the pre-production demo at home, I called it ‘The Bryan Ferry Song’ because I was using this ‘80s-style drum machine sample I’d just discovered in Logic. It certainly developed further in the studio, but I kept that very stable beat that runs through the whole track, focusing all the dynamics on the layering of the synths and the vocals.”

Brun plays Øya Festival in Oslo on 9 August, with headline tour dates for 2025/2026 to be announced later this month.

"Two in This Story" is out now.
