André 3000 shares why he wanted to remove his verse on Kanye West collaboration, "Life of the Party"
Speaking on The New York Times’ Popcast, André 3000 discussed joining forces with Kanye West on the track "Life of the Party" which featured on the deluxe version of the Donda album.
As both parties had bonded over the loss of their mothers, André 3000 revealed the inspiration behind the song: “I was speaking as if I’m speaking to his mom to tell a message to my mom. That song opened me up to say things that I couldn’t have said without Kanye."
He then revealed that as Kanye West promised his daughter that there wouldn't be any swearing on the album, he asked for his verse on "Life of the Party" to be removed as he didn't want his heartfelt message to be altered. "Ye was at a point where he didn’t want any curse words on the album and I said, ‘Yeah I’m cool with it.’ I’m totally fine with no curse words. But take me off the song because I’d written it a certain way. I was cool with beeped versions, but you have to put the dirty version of it out too."
The full explicit version of "Life of the Party" was released in November 2021.
