Almost Famous director Cameron Crowe has been working on a Joni Mitchell film in secret for the past two years
It's been revealed that Cameron Crowe (Almost Famous, Roadies) has been developing a Joni Mitchell film in secret over the past couple of years.
Above The Line reports that Cameron Crowe will write and direct the Joni Mitchell film, and it's expected to be more of an autobiography than a traditional biopic or documentary. The report states he's been working with Mitchell on the project during the pandemic, and it's "basically her life from the inside looking out."
The upcoming film on Mitchell will be Crowe's first film project since 2016's Roadies, although he did direct Stevie Nicks' "Show Them The Way" video in 2020.
In 2000, Crowe wrote of his reprinted 1979 interview with Mitchell for Rolling Stone [via The Uncool], "Every journalist has their dream list of interview subjects. Mine was Marvin Gaye, Neil Young and Joni Mitchell. I never got to Marvin Gaye, but Joni Mitchell more than made up for it. My last cover story for the magazine, and still my favourite."
Last year Mitchell made her live return, giving a surprise performance at Newport Folk Festival.
It's currently unclear when Cameron Crowe's Joni Mitchell film will be released.
