Alien Chicks sign to Alcopop! Records and announce new EP, Toys Taken At Birth
London post-punk trio Alien Chicks have announced their signing to Alcopop! Records, their upcoming EP, Toys Taken At Birth, and revealed lead single, "5/4".
"5/4" arrives as the band's first new music of 2026, following their Live at The Windmill EP released in March, and Forbidden Fruit EP released last May. The track explores the monotony of lockdown and the experience of juggling full-time jobs with making music.
Speaking about the song, the band share: “‘5/4’ is a staple of our live sets and mosh pits, and was written about the pressure of surviving under a system that leaves little room to live. It traces the slow fracture of a 9-to-5, where creativity is squeezed into whatever time capitalism doesn’t take. The shifting time signature - grounded in 5 but slipping into 6 -mirrors that instability, a constant sense of imbalance."
Referencing a range of diverse influences, Toys Taken At Birth is set to explore pressure and frustration through satire, delving into the feeling as though everything is "happening at you rather than around you". Ahead of the release, the band are scheduled for summer festival appearances, and a run of UK in-store shows taking place in autumn.
