Alewya details debut album, ZERO

11 March 2026, 09:30 | Written by Kayla Sandiford

London-based Ethiopian-Egyptian artist and curator Alewya has announced her upcoming debut album, ZERO, and shared new track “City of Symbols”.

ZERO serves as a reference point of continuous artistic growth for Alewya, who has long practiced singing, production, and visual art with an approach to sound defined by texture, feeling, and intuition.

The upcoming album comes five years after her debut project Panther in Mode, with “City of Symbols” arriving as the second preview of the work, following “Night Drive” featuring Dagmawit Ameha released last November. The new track features drums from eejebee and guitar by Vraell, bringing together Ethiopian rhythms and beats inspired by London’s underground alternative music scene.

Alewya co-produced ZERO with longtime collaborators Craigey Dodds and Dean Barrett, with additional contributions from Busy Twis on select tracks and Shy Fx serving as executive producer. Discussing the album, she says: “Zero is the beginning, middle and end. Zero is infinity’s twin.”
