Alabama Shakes to return with first album in over a decade, I Must Be Dreaming
Alabama Shakes have announced their third album, I Must Be Dreaming, and their upcoming single "I Feel Hope Coming" arriving this Friday, 10 July.
After eleven years, Alabama Shakes are back. The soulful Southern rock band first reunited back in 2024 to start writing the songs that would form I Must Be Dreaming, embracing a spontaneous and organic process as they let themselves rediscover their chemistry.
They hinted at a new chapter following their 2013 album Sound & Color with previous singles "Another Life" and "American Dream", and are now gearing up to present the full collection of songs. While the next single won't be released for another few days, the band have shared an album trailer offering a little teaser of what to expect from I Must Be Dreaming.
Alabama Shakes produced I Must Be Dreaming with Shawn Everett, and it was recorded in Nashville at Sound Emporium Studios and Blackbird Studio. Expanding on the foundations of Sound & Color, it leans into a psychedelic-inspired sound as the band explore love, mortality, human connection, and the contradictions of modern life.
The core of the album is best described by its title, of which singer Brittany Howard explains: "There's a double meaning to it. It could be saying, 'I must be dreaming, because the world is so fucking crazy right now.' But it could also mean, 'I must be dreaming, because the world is so incredibly beautiful.' Both those things can be true at once."
