100 Club to host no phones gig with VLURE and Big Truck this Sunday
Immersions May Vary have announced that they will be launching their new gig series, Please Put Your Phones Away, with performances from VLURE and Big Truck at The 100 Club this Sunday night (12 July).
While artists such as Bob Dylan and Jack White have long been implementing no-phones policies at their shows, this has started to become the case for more contemporary pop and indie acts, including Phoebe Bridgers and Harry Styles. While the aim is largely to encourage fans to have a more immersive, present experience, opinions on these events are often divided.
But now, beyond stadium shows, creative agency Immersions May Vary is looking to bring this policy to independent venue spaces with Please Put Your Phones Away. The first show in the series will be headlined by Glasgow rave punks VLURE, with support from big truck — the new project of Soft Play guitarist Laurie Vincent. Tickets for the gig are on sale now via DICE.
”Phone culture is killing the magic of experiencing live music,” says Benjani Lowe, Creative Director & Founder of experiential creative company Immersions May Vary. ”No phones and being truly present creates a way more powerful connection. If you take a digital brick out of your pocket and hold it up in the air, you’re blocking what we can enjoy together with our eyes and ears. Ultimately it’s selfish to damage the gig experience for the people around you and everyone in the room is instantly less immersed than they should be."
“We believe our phone-free gigs can positively contribute towards changing live music culture from the grassroots up," he continues. The purpose of Please Put Your Phones Away is to collaborate with great venues and great acts to show the experience of live music is immensely better for everyone when you put your phones away.”
