Following on from last month’s dark and sultry “Faded“, ZHU has returned with a seductive new cut that elevates him towards the likes of radio-friendly house production teams like Disclosure and Bondax.
It’s all about the top-line with this latest effort: a cooling falsetto, coloured with his typical slow-mo FX, soars out above deep, late-night production. “I need to be your lover, I need to be your king/And everything in between” the melody swoons with infectious simplicity. A busy shuffling rhythm recalls the aforementioned Lawrence brothers with a genuine song structure and satisfying drops ensuring the track is as prepped for the mainstream as it is for a smokey dance-floor.
The Los Angeles producer’s identity remains a mystery, but if “Paradise Awaits” (and that emoticon) is anything to go by then his forthcoming EP The Nightday - due 20 April via Mind Of A Genius - could be a breakthrough release for another brilliant, enigmatic dance artist.
