Brisbane duo Yes You channel late '90s Moby in "Be Mine"
There's been something of a '90s revival over the past couple of years. Brisbane's Yes You cut straight to its heart with a trip-hop track reminiscent of Massive Attack and Moby.
"We've been sitting on a stash of unreleased tracks for a while now and have recently felt an urge to share some new material ahead of our next major release", say Gav and Jono of Yes You.
"We've been taking a much more relaxed approach to writing while working on this record. We want everyone to get a feel for that as well."
A relaxed approach it may be, but the slick production on "Be Mine" tells another tale. At the centre lies a mouth of the Mississippi blues-esque sample, lifted by airy, metallic breakbeats and beautifully poignant strings.
Moby's "Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad" is the obvious comparison here, but set against the backdrop of 2015 "Be Mine" takes on its own epic voice.
It wouldn't be surprising to see the Australian duo's powerful but sensitive production on "Be Mine" leading to movie soundtrack features and the like - it's brilliant stuff.
