XO stakes his claim as a breakout electronic star with "Divine Disaster" (feat. James Chatburn)
With a cerebral sound that blends artists like Nao, James Blake, and Ben Khan, XO is truly a modern artist. His name steadily grew throughout 2015. Now, he's making an early claim to be one of the biggest names in electronic music this year.
"Divine Disaster" features a charismatic turn from James Chatburn and enjoys a bubbly, bouncy jaunt featuring stellar production from XO.
The instrumental is dense and lush - a living, breathing body of synths, electric piano chords, drums and blips. There's a pleasing imperfection to it, like a lot of Jai and A.K. Paul's early work.
The track, one half of a new double A-side, blends jazzy chord progressions with a futuristic electronic background, not unlike a Jamie Woon or Royce Wood Junior.
XO was truly built for these genre-blending times - in this instance effortlessly combining downtempo electronica, blues, neo-soul, and jazz.
"Divine Disaster" features on XO's forthcoming double A-Side (with "Night Time Solace"), released 26 February via He Loves You Not Recordings. (Pre-order).
