Tom Waits‘ elevation from ‘cult genius’ status towards ‘full-blown demi-god’ continues apace, helped on its way by news of new album Bad As Me.
The title track is everything we have come to expect from latter-day Waits. The lurching, sailor on shore leave arrangement; the increasingly deranged vocal; the absurdly fantastic sounding drums – it’s all there. If anything, in fact, Waits is in even stranger form than usual, his now-trademark yelp sounding less and less proximate to sanity.
‘Bad As Me’ is taken from the album of the same name, due out on Anti on 25 October.
