Here’s a nice weekend warmup. Andrew Weatherall takes on Toddla T and Roots Manuva‘s ‘Watch Me Dance’ – with mildly terrifying results.
The original is a fantastically catchy chunk of Ed Banger-esque club candy, all slightly tongue-in-cheek electro and ’80s synth stabs. Weatherall’s rework, meanwhile, manages to take what was a lot of fun, and turn it into something that is, frankly, a bit disturbing. A bit like taking a trip round a dub house of horrors while trying to escape a little arpeggiator that just won’t go away.
‘Watch Me Dance’ is out on 1 August on Ninja Tune.
