Tiny Giant lays bittersweet punches on "Draw Me A Line"
Sometimes life truly is like sucking the stinging heat of a ciggie right through the barrel of a cool, sweet candy cane clenched between your lips.
“Draw Me A Line” is London duo Tiny Giant’s third single and continues their winning streak of spiking their sugary, emo-laden punch with the bitter tang of punishing, metal-flavoured riffs.
Tiny Giant’s marriage of brawny precision and pop eclecticism is chiefly down to frontwoman Chloe Alper’s musical road map from teenage feminist punk through prog-rock multi-instrumentalist to Charli XCX sidewoman. Her vocals’ breathy immediacy paints the bright swaths of the wide-ranging spectrum the band runs through, underpinned by dark dollops of pummeling bass and drum.
“Draw Me A Line” personifies the band’s aesthetic, a dichotomy that runs top-down from their genre conglomerating to the pop art juxtaposition of the album art. Alper insists to her lover that she’s !not alright without the line you give me… not alright without the love you give me." She needs the freedom afforded by love, yet at the same time needs that love to rein her in.
