The Americans ditch the rulebook for twinkling country odyssey "I'll Be Yours"
L.A. foursome The Americans are sharing their latest tune "I'll Be Yours", the title track from their upcoming LP.
The recent Loose Music (Israel Nash, Sturgill Simpson) signees have already shared some noises from the record, which is out next month, including rollicking rock romper "The Right Stuff".
Beginning life as a "roots band enthralled by pre-war American country and blues", the group have careened through a decisively non-traditional path to their current position, along the way snowballing into a different beast entirely. Although remnants of their origins are easily plucked from the mix, there's a lot more to delve into - and this latest cut is a prime example.
In its opening moments "I'll Be Yours" quivers with country ballad vox and outlaw riffs, but it soon morphs into unrecognisable shapes as it grows. The Americans eschew formal plans and genre conventions in favour of forging their own path, with this new single lurching into sunny realms to live as symphonic beaut full of twinkles, sparks, cinematic brass, and Beirut-level emotion.
