Though popularity is subject to a lot of things, there are some bands that feel as though they’d have gained a following no matter which era they sprung up in. 2009’s Post Nothing was a record that could’ve been produced in any decade from the 50’s and still had the same brilliance running through it. The pure, unfettered racket of Japandroids is probably what makes them such an arresting live band, all noise and unbridled energy, it’s a recipe that couldn’t fail to seep into their recorded output.
Following from being on most of last year’s ‘best of’ lists, the duo have been typically eager to keep up the tempo of their releases. Whilst touring, Japandroids promised to fill the year with a series of seven inch singles, the second of which is due out on July 20th through Polyvinyl. Entitled ‘Younger Us’, it’s the same raucous frenetic rock that always gets the critics fawning, but with a crisper delivery. It’s bound to have the sweaty, awkward rooms they play jumping during their next 3 months of shows.
Pressed on clear vinyl, the single will be backed with a cover of X’s ‘Sex and Dying in High Society’ and, if the previous seven inch is anything to go by, this should sell out well before release day. Luckily, we’ve got the single available to download below.
