SOTD #78 // Porcelain Raft: 'Tip Of Your Tongue'
One of the most glorious things about listening to music is that moment when you can actually feel yourself sliding into love with a band. For some acts, it can take years before you attain that moment, for others it goes completely unnoticed. With Porcelain Raft, you’ll be lucky if you manage to go two minutes without losing yourself within their dream pop noise.
The descent is quickened if you’ve already acquainted yourself with Beach House. Indeed, the shadow of Teen Dream looms large over the work without ever overpowering the noise. There’s a warmth within the sound, but administered from a distance, through an ambient haze. It’s music made to make you sway, like a half forgotten memory transformed into a series of irresistible pop songs that magnificently wash over you.
Fans and critics alike should be fawning over Porcelain Raft in droves during the coming months, with their live shows gaining reviews as superlative laden as the blog posts about their MySpace tracks. There’s an EP available via bandcamp that’s for sale at under a pound which would be completely foolish to miss. If you’re short on money, ‘Tip Of Your Tongue’ will probably do for now, a title utterly apt for a song destined to lodge itself within your subconscious.
