SOTD #63 // Gold Panda: 'You (worriedaboutsatan Remix)'
Oh my. You’re in for a treat today. This is epic. Honestly, you’ll need to sit down in a darkened room after listening to this. Not only do we have the genius of Gold Panda at work here, but we also have the genius of one of our favourite acts, worriedaboutsatan.
‘You’, in its original form, was a classic piece of modern electronica – not quite dance music, not IDM, just a wondrous flow of music, a stream of concious perhaps. Whatever it was, we loved it. What worriedaboutsatan have done with the remix is turn it into a hulking beast of a track. The bass is epic, the rhythm’s augmented, the chopped up intro burrows straight into your cerebral cortex.
What the remix hasn’t done, is lost the original theme – that Eastern sounding hook that revolves around the core of ‘You’ is still there, that choppy synth line still the central focus. The added chatter and random nonsense, to me at least, brings to mind those mad pictures of Tokyo at peak time. Like any good remix, this has focused the attention on key elements of the track, making you realise how great the original is. I don’t normally go in for remixes, but this has changed my entire beliefs. Brilliant.
