SOTD #163 // Acid House Kings: 'Are We Lovers or Are We Friends'
We were promised a new record from Sweden’s Acid House Kings nearly four years ago. Labrador Records‘ website even tells us – to this day – that “a new album defining the meaning of pop is scheduled for a 2009 release”.
So what happened?
Five years on from their Sing Along With… LP, and at the beginning of what promises to be a cold European winter, ‘Are We Lovers or Are We Friends?’ hits the electronic ether. And the timing is entirely perfect. It’s a track teeming with (end of) summer sentiments, pumped along by the most autumnal of brass.
And just when you think they’d forgotten, in jumps a bit of sleigh bell to remind us that the 25th December is just around the corner. It’s deliciously hummable and – like all the best Christmases – over way too fast.
