‘Far Nearer’ is Jamie from the xx solo debut, it’s a track that swaps his band’s intimate bedroom atmospherics for a vibrant, glowing ambience. A post dubstep track, similar to the recent sounds of Mount Kimbie but with a calypso/funky-house undercurrent. The idyllic beats from the steel pan act as the track’s core, with the frantic sampled drums and the deep vocal playing conuterparts to the strong summery beat.
While he may be known as the ‘quiet one from the xx’ he played a massive part with their overall sonic, with him regularly spending day and night in the studio producing the self-titled mercury winner. And if this is a sign as to where the xx could/will go next, then suffice to say I’m quite excited.
