SOTD #5 // Visions Of Trees: 'Cult Of Cobras'
Joni Juden and Sara Atalar are the two mysterious masked figures who make up Visions Of Trees. Fairly new on the scene, they met each other during the Summer of last year and began recording what would eventually be their debut EP Sometimes It Kills (out February 10th via Royal Rhino Flying Records). Visions Of Trees have been described in the past as “tropical dream pop” – which in my book is a pretty accurate summarization. “Cult Of Cobras”, the second of the four tracks that make up Sometimes It Kills, is a bubbly underwater head-fuck of a pop song. Now, as a sentence, I’m fairly aware that doesn’t actually make much sense; but once you’ve download “Cult Of Cobras”, close your eyes and listen intently as you’re taken on deep sea journey of clattering tribal beats and soft reverb drenched vocals. By the time the 5 minute track has passed, you’ll feel like you’ve just been on an LSD fuelled swim with a herd of dolphins. That, or you’ll just want to pop your ears.
Visions Of Trees will be celebrating the launch of Sometimes It Kills on February 26th at The George Tavern in Whitechapel, London. They’ll be performing live alongside Thee Moths, Dignan Porch, Behold a Pale Horse, Drugg and Friends. Plus there will be DJ sets from myself, Julius Liljeberg (Use Your Fucking Headphones) and The Blomqvists. Click for further details.
