After touring rigorously for two years in support of their staggeringly good third album Welcome To The Night Sky, Nova Scotia based Wintersleep have finally announced details of New Inheritors, their eagerly awaited fourth long-player released via One Four Seven Records on May 17th.
The albums title track and lead-off single will be released a week earlier on May 10th and we’re thrilled to be able to offer it as today’s Song Of The Day – two months ahead of release.
A brisk, four and a half minute shot of escapism. The band immediately freeing the shackles of their oft-post rock influenced sound of two years ago and replacing with a more direct pop approach. Stylistically, there are hints of fellow Canucks Broken Social Scene within the driving, urgent drums and muted brass. But Paul Murphy’s unmistakable emotive vocal still holds everything together, making it still very much a Wintersleep record; just with an added sense of grace and urgency. Once the four minutes are over, all that’s really left to do is press the repeat button.
