As London’s one-man-band Sivu prepares for the release of his Radio 1 approved single “Cant Stop Now”, the track has been reinterpreted by no less than Bombay Bicycle Club’s Jack Steadman.
Many soundcloud surfers will be familiar with Steadman’s eclectic production portfolio, drawing styles from hip-hop to garage and DnB alike. In the case of his most recent remix of Sivu’s latest single “Can’t Stop Now”, Steadman reasserts his confidence in his ability to comprehend the mechanics of a song, take them apart and then reinvent the piece completely. The original track, which has unmistakable traces of Bombay Bicycle Club, is slowed down, given staccato synth and seasoned with a Moby-esque ambience that makes it sound like a number from the soundtrack of Danny Boyle’s The Beach.
The beauty of Steadman’s adaptations are that we gain an insight into the ear of the musician; which roots caught his attention and what got him ticking, shifting a little more prominence to the process and not just the end product.
“Cant Stop Now” is available 24 March via Atlantic Records.
You can see Sivu play Brighton’s Great Escape Festival in May and in London on 4 June for his headline Roundhouse Studios show.
