A few months ago, Simian Ghost helped to cure me of Scandi-fatigue. Their excellent ‘Free Agent’ was a circuit-bending attempt at ‘Last Christmas’ that set them apart from the synth-pop hordes.
Now, on their forthcoming album Youth the Swedish band have taken a left turn. Where ‘Free Agent’ had a thin patina of scuzz, ‘Youth’ is buffed to perfection. Grizzly Bear harmonies and sparkle-laden, trebly guitars combine to produce something charming – cute but not cutesy, smile-inducing but not twee.
‘Youth’ is taken from the album of the same name, out 5 March on Heist or Hit.
