Sam Wills has spent the last 18 months honing his sound working with the likes of Jordan Rakei, Grades, SG Lewis, Jarreau Vandall and Tom Misch. Now the 23-year-old Hastings soloist shares the fruits of his labour with the Karma Kid-produced "Electrified".
The marks of a talented singer/musician are immediate; Wills is in perfect control of his dexterous, soulful croon as thick swabs of bass and beats bounce beneath.
It's not a million miles away from the kind of elastic, modern-day electrosoul and funk Royce Wood Junior writes, though painted with a more radio-ready sheen. Solid stuff.
So Bright EP is released on 13 May.
