Manchester-based Austrian producer salute confronts grief with acute tenderness on “All About U”
salute (Felix Nyajo) was born and raised in Austria before moving to Manchester, crafting a unique identity for himself in the musical stratosphere. New track “All About U” is tight and purposeful, throbbing and metamorphosing into billowing clouds of electronica.
“All About U” is drenched in electrifying melodies, catalytic dubstep rhythms and a mix of splintered synth pads, and yet despite this euphoric blend, the record is shrouded in a cloak of melancholy.
“This is a reflection of where my life was at whilst I was writing these songs,” he explains. “Rather than how they sound, I always end up writing songs that are meant to be sad but almost sound happy – this was probably just my way of coping with feelings”.
Having shelved the track for five years before recently returning to the vocal, there’s a sense of personal growth and reflection to the release. A “throwback to the post-dubstep era - uncomplicated and fun dance music”, its artistic vision is incredibly cohesive. An extension of bass culture, salute uses dubstep as a rough guide for his experimental production.
