Reading power-pop troupe Saltwater Sun unleash their most incendiary single to date, "Now Or Never"
Saltwater Sun are at it again. "Now Or Never" is the type of solid gold guitar pop that could well see them ride the wave of success enjoyed by the likes of Wolf Alice.
We mention the North London quartet because, well, it's nigh-on impossible not to. The track's classic opening muted chords simmer until all boils over with explosive guitars and whip-smart drums - much like the build and release mechanisms employed by the chart heavyweights.
Jenn Stearnes' singing, too, flits between languid lulls and unabashed wails akin to Ellie Rowsell. Stearnes, however, has arguably more vocal grit and character, here bolstered by an onslaught of squealing guitar solos and beautifully harmonising pedal notes.
It might be dangerous to make such blatant comparisons at this stage. But if the nation's music lovers want another gut-punch hit of no-bones power pop, they best not be deprived of it.
"Now Or Never" is taken from Saltwater Sun's forthcoming EP, FLAWED, released on Hand In Hive this summer. They play Field Day festival on 12 June.
