Py keeps it eclectic with new single “Glummywood” [Premiere]
With the release of her debut EP, Ghostdance (out now on Tilehouse), Py cemented her reputation as a force to be reckoned with in the realm of eccentric electronica. The latest single taken from the four-track offering is a fittingly vibrant collision of tones and textures.
“Glummywood” is underpinned by the sound of an amphetamine-infused music box. The dreamlike jangling is an eerie constant across the track. Brash synths periodically erupt over Py’s delicate vocals, while vaguely offbeat rhythms and vinyl scratches further muddle the soundscape. The song boasts an icy sort of precision—Py is pushing boundaries and she knows it. However, there’s just enough of a sultry electropop vocal to keep “Glummywood” rooted in palatable territory.
Ghostdance is out now on the singer’s own Tilehouse label and produced by Ross Tones of Throwing Snow. For a taste of her bold eclecticism, stream “Glummywood” below.
