[Premiere] Yeti Lane – Analog Wheel // Song Of The Day #372
General rule of thumb: if Sonic Cathedral says something is fucking incredible, believe them. Today’s example is the new track from Parisian maestros Yeti Lane. Now down to a two-piece of Ben Pleng and Charlie B (they of Cyann and Ben), ‘Analog Wheel’ is the lead-off track from forthcoming new album The Echo Show, and if it’s any indicator of how that record will turn out we’re in for quite a treat come March 2012.
A seven minute epic opening track, ‘Analog Wheel’ calls to mind the Krautrock of Harmonia mixed with the shoegaze guitar fireworks of My Bloody Valentine and the electronic pop heart of Stereolab. It builds from burbling electronics and whistles, then drums and vocals kick it up a notch at two minutes, and you know you’re in for something special when the guitars join, and we’ve set the controls for the heart of the sun. If that’s not enough, the outro to the track has beautiful psychedelic harmonies, courtesy of Ben Pleng’s summery songwriting. Yeti Lane have truly stepped it up this time. It’s helped by the gleaming production of Antoine Gaillet, best known for his work with M83. His obsession with sound and production, say the band, helped push Yeti Lane further in their sonic pursuits this time around.
The rest of The Echo Show promises to be a balance between Charlie’s musical explorations and Ben’s knack for cosmic melodies. The cover art for the record confirms this duality, a mix of Kraftwerk’s Trans-Europe Express and a 60s folk duo portrait. With ‘Analog Wheel’ we know it works brilliantly, and we hope you do too.
