Nabovarsel, the Norwegian label responsible for the excellent Put Your Hands Up For Neo-Tokyo, are readying their second release – a new EP from Bergen’s Machine Birds.
‘Time’ is a lot of different things all at once. The instrumentation is reminiscent of a Scandinavian synth-pop Yann Tiersen. The beautiful, vibrato-tinged vocals sound rather like a slightly matured Mechanical Bride. The chorus, meanwhile, is one of the catchiest I have heard in a very long time – and it boasts a delightful, theremin-esque synth sound that, bizarrely, brings to mind Holes In The Wall-era Electric Soft Parade. It’s a beautiful, heartbroken pop song, perfectly constructed and produced with a classic Scandinavian sheen.
‘Time’ is out 19 September, with the EP following in December. Stream the track below.
