Phoria return with beautiful new track “Melatonin”, set to appear on the Brighton band's debut LP
Back in 2013 Phoria appeared with “Red”. From its opening bars, the track demands every ounce of your emotional attention as it cascades through its blissfully anxious journey.
Now, following the release of the Display EP and extensive touring, the Brighton quintet - Seryn Burden, Tim Douglas, Jeb Hardwick, Trewin Howard, Ed Sanderson - have put the finishing touches on their to album (due next year via X Novo Records). Our first taste is “Melatonin”.
Once again the track finds that sweet-spot between graceful poise and brooding power thanks, in the most part, to the combination of a soaring, whispered falsetto above heady, hypnotic production.
Pounding synth basslines are married with metronomic clicks and intricately affected guitar work before a kaleidoscopic and celebratory refrain bursts into life alongside a crescendo of almost reverent vocal backing.
It’s hard to avoid the potential big name influences such as In Rainbows-esque Radiohead and genre-defining James Blake, but Phoria create something that is entirely their own and continue to demand our attention with another release of glorious, haunting beauty.
