PHOEBE ∆X∆ is feeling the pressure of growing up on her outstanding debut single "Wisdom Teeth"
Discovered at Latitude Festival through a performance on the BBC Introducing stage, PHOEBE ∆X∆ returned to her East London family home and holed herself up in the garage to get to work on more music.
Teaching herself to use music production program LogicPro in the kitchen, ∆X∆ quickly took over the family's garage converting it into her very own studio space where she continued to hone her skills writing, recording and producing her own music. An impressive feat, she conjured her debut single "Wisdom Teeth (Pressure)" at home in this sanctuary.
The perfect setting for the topics she wrestles with in her lyrics, this very first release sees ∆X∆ admit to falling into the anxious and stressful pitfalls of ageing. “This single is my very reluctant response to growing up," she explains. "It explores the melancholy feeling you get when you enter a new phase of your life. I suppose it’s me having a bit of a tantrum about having to be an adult and feeling under pressure."
She imagines that tantrum of loss and the complications of navigating her youth in the single's music video, shot and created with the help of her sister during lockdown. Clips of family holidays and are interspersed with ∆X∆ exploring the outside world, and there's one scene you shouldn't miss, a young Phoebe – long before her pop star ambitions – at Latitude festival.
A coming-of-age anthem "Wisdom Teeth (Pressure)" is not preoccupied with the future it's instead wrapped up in the journey and the process. Concerns about the future are super-ceded by zealous analysis of what's happening right now and what's happening right now for ∆X∆ is truly exciting.
