Listen: Outfit – Be Still [Premiere]
London via a Liverpool five-piece, Outfit, burst onto the scene with the effervescent ‘Two Islands’ single, following that up with a toned, intelligent EP of equally knotty rhythm and pervasive melody. The former mansion-turned-squat dwellers released their debut full-length, Performance, on 12 August, with our own Chris Lo lauding their ability to, ‘take the unexpected and make it sound entirely natural.’
The album’s Deluxe Edition includes four bonus tracks, including early hit ‘Every Night I Dress Up As You’, and ‘Be Still’, which we’re delighted to premiere today. Strutting in with a fidgety bass lick, it’s not long before those translucent harmonies grab the limelight, as so often the case on Performance. ‘Be Still’ provides another wholly labyrinthine experience, sensory disorientation being one of their most effective techniques, this one permeated by Andrew Hunt’s softly droning tones, slippery guitar figures and muffled snares. A rather choice offcut we’re sure you’ll agree.
