Listen: Nick Hakim – “Pour Another” [UK Premiere]
Washington D.C. wunderkind Nick Hakim delivers another teaser from his forthcoming LP with new track “Pour Another”. We have the UK premiere today on Best Fit.
Musically, the track treads some of the same enjoyable, soulful ground as previous releases “Cold” and “The Light,” but it also gives the listener a peek at the multi-instrumentalist’s more experimental side. A spare, leisurely drum part provides the beat as guitar and piano trade off on a lovely descending chord progression. Meanwhile, Hakim’s vocals veer in to territory that Bon Iver fans will appreciate.
A reverb-soaked guitar takes this portion of the track out in style, but that’s not where things end: a little over four minutes in, a dreamy vignette featuring a single guitar and a smooth vocal melody kick in. Is it meant as an epilogue to “Pour Another”, or does it serve as a bridge between this track and the next? We can’t wait to find out.
Nick Hakim’s debut album Where Will We Go is due this spring.
