MT – Paranoid People Meet Me In The Middle [Best Fit Premiere]
A weird beast, this, the first *official* offering from MT. Due to their insistent live residencies around London these past few months, the group have managed to get many an A&R exec hot under the collar without actually releasing any music on ‘The Ineternets’; thus not falling foul to any of the ‘buzz’ that seems to handicap so many a promising band. The almost un-googleable MT (short for Michael Tomlinson, the group’s frontman) debut online today with ‘Paranoid People Meet Me In The Middle’ – a strange fruit indeed that’s as baffling as it is exciting.
A capella auto-tuned opening verses that veer towards the two minute mark aren’t normally considered to be the greatest way to launch a healthy career in daytime radio, especially for a group that’s so undeniably ‘pop’, which almost makes this first single ‘Paranoid People Meet Me In The Middle’ even more intriguing. As the song erupts into an orchestral orgy of synths and over-driven electronic drum pads, some kind of next level hymnal quality takes over and sends the track hurtling towards M83-esque levels of bombast, whilst retaining a level of bewilderment akin to that of the Flaming Lips.
‘Paranoid People Meet Me In The Middle’ is released via Records Records Records on December 5.
