LA breakout star mehro delivers a sense of comfort on "not alone"
Using the political, social and ecological crises of 2020 as inspiration, Angelino singer/songwriter mehro turns suffering into folk-influenced indie-rock.
The final single to be lifted from his debut project SKY ON FIRE, "not alone" isn't a cry for help or a call for change it shares a message of the importance of connection, whether than be physical or digital. "This is for my humans layin' in their beds alone tonight.
This is for my people tortured by their thoughts until daylight. You're not alone," mehro sings in the track's chorus. It's relatable because it's a position most of us will have been in over the last 12 months or so when at times uncertainty has been the only certainty in our lives.
Following singles "perfume" and "lightning", "not alone" is the final piece of mehro's new EP. Mapping intimate moments amongst atmospheric soundscapes, he explains the world events which sparked the beginning of the collection. "It was the California fires, while seeing the ashes in the air and the blazing red sun, that inspired the concept for the project," he says.
"With the Australian fires, the murders of Briana Taylor, George Floyd and countless others, along with a global pandemic, we found ourselves in the middle of an environmental and cultural disaster. It was on top of us and all around us. With so much fear burning through our communities, our homes, our minds and our hearts, it seemed as though there was nothing we could do to put it out. Like a sky on fire," he adds.
