Listen: The Phoenix Foundation – Modern Rock [Best Fit Premiere]
The Phoenix Foundation are set to release their new album Fandango on 22 April. The expansive double LP will be the New Zealander’s fifth and only the second to arrive on European shores.
Previous output from the sextet has often glided between genres, a bit of psych folk here, a touch of progressive rock there and rather
than being loose and ramshackle, songs are always awfully well put together. The latest example of which is Side A album track ‘Modern Rock’.
Here the band steadily gather pace, bringing you along with them on their journey throughout the chorus vocal refrain of “running away”. There are teases of glistening psychedelia bubbling under too, but it’s all appropriately restrained and just enough to peak interest into hearing it performed expansively in a live setting.
Check out the band’s UK tour dates below. Fandango is out 22 April via Memphis Industries.
