Listen: Richard Buckner – When You Tell Me How It Is [Premiere]
A true pioneer of the Alternative Country movement and inspiration to many an aspiring guitar toting singer-songwriter, Richard Buckner returns in September with a brand new album.
The follow-up to 2011′s Our Blood, Surrounded sees Buckner team up with Tucker Martine (The Decemberists, R.E.M., Neko Case) on production duties and with that, delivers an album that thrives on urgency and ‘capturing the moment’.
Buckner fell into an eternal trap with Our Blood – re-recording the songs over and over; contaminating them with over thinking. Speaking of the sessions, Buckner recaps: “Tucker understood the urgency in me to tie the whole thing up before I fell into the same trap that I’d had finishing Our Blood and was generous enough to move other commitments around to fit Surrounded in. When I had finally finished Our Blood, I felt like I’d just survived a stroll through a mine field. WithSurrounded, it was more of a sensation that I’d successfully organized a messy desk.”
Today at Best Fit, we’re thrilled to offer the first taster from Surrounded with the slightly skewed, slightly mariachi flavoured ‘When You Tell Me How It Is’.
Surrounded will be released via Merge on 3 September. Pre-order on vinyl and CD through their official store here.
